EQUINE ASSISTED THERAPY FOR PEOPLE
A passionate team support Zara and her wellness program which was designed for local children and adults in the Central Otago and Queenstown Lakes suburbs in New Zealand.
The Equine therapy that has been performed so far has some evidence supporting its effectiveness in helping to manage several conditions.
Our people engage in activities such as grooming, feeding, leading a variety of different horses. While also participating in multiple team building activities which also relate to horses. This is all completed while being supervised by Zara and her dedicated team.
Goals of this form of the wellness program includes, helping people develop skills such as emotional regulation, self-confidence, and responsibility.
Our mature horses weigh anywhere in the range of 200kg- 1200kg or more. Some clients may feel a bit intimidated to have such a large, majestic creature participating in the sessions but the horses are non-Judgmental or unbiased.
Horses are good observers and are vigilant, sensitive to movement and emotion. They often mirror a client's behaviour or emotions. This allows the clients to maintain a sense of self-awareness, then able to use the horse's behaviour and interactions for feedback.
Animals can offer an extraordinary amount of emotional support. The horses are our main focus but we aren’t limited to just that type of species. Due to allergies and personality, horses may not be appropriate. Zara gives her clients the opportunity to interact with different animals for their unique reasons.
Our gates are designed to keep the horses in not the people out.
